Rest in Quiet Harmony—

A Cherry Blossom Painting

One of my favorite parts of Sakura season (Cherry Blossom) in Japan is the petals falling. The magical atmosphere that falling petals off these old, gnarled, and moss covered trees create is truly something out of a story book. It is heavenly.

“Rest in Quiet Harmony” attempts to capture this ethereal event while also placing emphasis on the beauty of stillness. The stillness of the petals on the ground create a sense of peace.

This painting speaks of balance between dark and light, delicate petals and a strong trunk. The brick wall is the symbol of humans cultivating and caring for this tree for many decades as they trimmed the tree over time to create it’s height. The tree lives through every season, including snow storms, in humble grandeur. Located on a busy street of Yokota Air Force Base, this tree is passed by people every day becoming an ordinary background to their busy lives. Yet, when we are still and observe this aged tree we learn and we see more.

Rest in Quiet Harmony—

This piece reminds us that rest is sometimes a new beginning in itself. After a busy season of life, a restful season is needed for one to be at harmony with yourself. In stillness we learn, grow and admire.

Viewing and cherishing the Sakura season—Cherry Blossoms— with family and friends, is a highlight in Japan. Sakura blooms symbolize the very idea of embracing the present, the fragility of life, and marking new beginnings.

This piece is part of the Sakura Collection, which shares and honors this remarkable event—Sakura season—and beautiful blooms as a reminder to savor our gatherings and celebrate new beginnings.

Artfully,
